Spirituality at Great Harwood St John's
As a church school and a place "where everyone shines with God's love" we believe that the spiritual development of all of our children is important.
We aim to create an environment that will nurture people's mind, body and soul.
We believe that spirituality can be promoted and developed in all areas of education and life. Therefore, we ensure that throughout our curriculum there are rich deep thinking opportunities that contribute to pupil's spiritual development.
What is spirituality?
Spirituality is an ongoing reflective journey and relates to fundamental questions about the meaning and purpose of life which affects everyone and is not dependent on religious affiliation.
Spiritual development differs from person to person and is a very personal experience. For this reason, it is difficult to put into words. Spirituality concerns a person’s relationship with themselves, with others, with God (or the transcendent), and with nature and the environment. Spirituality is not the same as having a religion or faith; a person can be spiritual without having a particular faith.
Here at Great Harwood St John's Church of England Primary School, we believe that ongoing and often incidental opportunities to help to develop children's spirituality are incredibly important and we ensure that these take place throughout our school day and curriculum.
