The Arts

Great Harwood St John's CE Music Intent

We encourage children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we aim to build up the confidence of all children. We expose the children to musical experiences such as playing instruments, visits to the theatre, taking part in productions, performances and shows and many more activities. Those children wishing to explore music further we offer opportunities to be part of the choir. Singing lies at the heart of good music teaching.
“Sing to the Lord a new song.  Sing to the Lord, all the earth!”
                                Psalm 96:1

Great Harwood St John's CE Art Intent

At St John's Primary School, we aim to teach and develop a high-quality art and design education that ensures the teaching of the skills required to meet the aims of the national curriculum and to develop a life-long love of art. We believe our art lessons should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. We display as much of the children's art work as possible to celebrate the children's creativity and freedom of expression through the use of a range of media and skills.
