Spirituality in MFL
Spirituality is subtly interwoven into MFL as language goes beyond acquiring vocabulary and grammar – it can also foster a deeper connection with other cultures, values, and ideas, encouraging our children to reflect on their own beliefs and understandings of the world. Furthermore, it allows our children to explore different cultures of the countries where the language is spoken. This provides opportunities to discuss and reflect on different spiritual beliefs, traditions, and practices, fostering respect for diversity. By understanding the spiritual and cultural practices of others, our children can develop empathy and appreciation for different ways of living, broadening their spiritual horizons. Learning a foreign language helps children understand that the world is interconnected, with diverse people living in different parts of the world, each with their own spiritual practices and beliefs. This can foster a sense of global citizenship and interconnectedness, which are important spiritual values. Our children may be inspired to think about how different cultures approach issues like love, kindness, suffering, and community. MFL not only enriches their language skills but also supports their spiritual growth.
